1. a. Probably, I will not know my host family member died because we do not chat since last winter.
But, if I found my host family member died, I will send some letter or card for the host family.
b. No, I have not. I have been only Japanese funeral so I am not sure about foreign funeral.
2. a. I do not think Japanese designer label crazy because I am a Japanese, and some Japanese are pretentious, I think, so every year they change clothes like a show window.
b. I think its words means you do not judge people by their appearance, it is different their mind.

I think your answer of No.1 is good idea. because card is really familiar to another counties. they send card on even christmans or New years day. so your idea does not hurt any one all over the world

I agree with you. Surely,I won't know my host family member died because we do not conntact and if I found my host family member died, I will send a letter too.
I think that to send a letter or card is good way. Then I want to call them and tell words of comfort. If i have oppotunity, i want to attend their funeral. Because they were take care of me very well when I stayed with a family.
Yes, I think it's important to imform what you think about the person's dead.
